How is it even feasible to compile a list of the best airplanes ever made given the tens of thousands of models that have been constructed and flown since the days of the Wright Brothers?
It’s a legitimate query, and we spent a lot of time debating it before we even started the voyage. The activity seems a little silly at first. Because there are so ᴍᴀɴy various types of missions, there are also a wide variety of shapes and sizes for airplanes.
However, the more we considered it, the more sense it seemed to us. First of all, we had to admit that there are ᴍᴀɴy excellent airplanes. We determined that a large number of historically noteworthy aircraft belong to a more elite membership. But finally, there is a level of greatness that can be quantified using a few distinct and, in the majority of cases, at least somewhat quantifiable categories, such as the quantity built, the top speed, or the duration of service.
But after examining the various mission types, including training, personal and commercial transportation, ғɪɢʜᴛers, bombers, reconnaissance, and more, we made the decision to further focus our search by determining whether any of those aircraft were considered to be the best in their respective categories.
