The specialist ᴍᴀɴufacturer of five-axis CNC machining centers and CNC turning equipment, Intorex, with headquarters in Barcelona, recently finished an automation project that entailed the integration of a robot operating between two machines that otherwise would be stand-alone pieces of equipment. The two machines in question were an Intorex LNX CNC rotary sander and an Intorex CKX 1300 hopper-fed CNC lathe. The Swedish-based chair ᴍᴀɴufacturer’s request was for the two machines to operate simultaneously and automatically without the need for a huᴍᴀɴ operator to move the pieces between them.
With the exception of the lathe’s outfeed and the sander’s infeed loading, both the lathe and the sander were essentially typical pieces of equipment. The main task entailed connecting the Yaskawa robot and their operational and sequencing software.
The Intorex factory completed and tested the necessary work. With just one operator, the customer can now create four sanded chair legs each minute thanks to the machinery that have been in place for little under a year.
