Welcoming you to the pilot’s seat for this amazing landing of this historic aircraft, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F flown by Lufthansa Cargo, which took off from Nairobi, Kᴇɴʏᴀ, and landed here in Frankfurt, Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴʏ. The aircraft is fully established on the final approach to Runway 07R at Frankfurt International Airport in Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴʏ. In spite of the bad weather, we have a great view of Frankfurt’s southwest as we fly over the Main river where it merges with the Rhine as we approach Frankfurt. The MD-11F slowly descends along the glideslope, with the automated GPWS voice callouts announcing each stage of the descent.
The rollout on runway 07R is highly Bᴜᴍᴘy, and the female pilot sᴋɪʟʟfully hand-flies the MD 11 onto the ground with the landing gear deployed at about 2000 feet above ground. After a lengthy voyage from Nairobi, the cargo crew will be grateful for some relaxation as they exit the runway!
