The HMM Algeciras is the first of a line of twelve vessels that are all the same. She and her sisters are currently the largest ships in the world, measuring 400 meters long and holding 23,964 TEU. The shipyards DSMI and SHI had received orders from the shipping business to build seven and five ships, respectively.
The series is a part of the class of ships known as Megamax-24 container ships. 24 is the maximum number of containers that can be stacked side by side over the width of the ship. Below the deck, twelve levels can be stacked, and another twelve layers can be placed above the deck.
The deckhouse is placed well forward, as is typical of megacarriers, to offer the ship’s command a superior view of the front. The WinGD engine that powers the mega-ship has a 60,580kW output. The ship can now travel at a speed of 22.4 knots thanks to this. The entire series has what is known as “scrubbers.” These exhaust gas scrubbers implement the necessary global regulations by removing sulfur emissions from the ship’s exhaust gases.
The MSC Gulsun, a 23,756 TEU ship owned by the Swiss shipping company MSC, is replaced as the largest ship in the world by the HMM Algeciras. One of the biggest logistics firms in the world, HMM is based in Seoul, Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Kᴏʀᴇᴀ. The shipping company placed ninth in terms of container vessel capacity the previous year. With a fleet of over 120 ships overall, HHM also oversees bulk carriers in addition to container ships. Around the world, the company has more than 70 branch offices.
HMM’s largest office in Gᴇʀᴍᴀɴʏ is in Hamburg, with further offices in Bremen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich. In March 2020, Hyundai Merchant Marine Co, Ltd changed its name to HMM co, LTD, with its European headquarters located in London, Uɴɪᴛᴇᴅ Kɪɴɢᴅᴏᴍ.
