For three women working for Mᴀʟᴀʏsɪᴀn Aviation Group (MAG), who are establishing themselves in a historically male-dominated field, the sky is the limit. These outstanding young women were inspired to break into the profession despite its lack of gender diversity by their curiosity, drive, and the presence of female role models.

First officer Munirah Muhsin of Mᴀʟᴀʏsɪᴀ Airlines Berhad (MAB) was motivated after encountering a female pilot more than ten years ago while serving as a cabin crew member for an airline in the Uɴɪᴛᴇᴅ Aʀᴀʙ Eᴍɪʀᴀᴛᴇs.

According to the International Society of Women Airline Pilots, female pilots are uncommon and makeup just over 5% of commercial pilots worldwide.

Mᴀʟᴀʏsɪᴀ is no exception, and Mᴀʟᴀʏsɪᴀ Airlines didn’t hire their first group of female student pilots to assume the helm in the aircraft until 2018.

35 female pilots, including captains, first officers, second officers, and cadets, are now employed by the airline. According to Munirah, thanks to the efforts of those who came before her, it is now simpler for women to operate in the sector.
